Today we are going to take you through sublimating one of our newest products, the sublimation Pot Mat Holder. This product is great; it has a reflective shiny material on the bottom that prevents any heat damage to your work surfaces or furniture and a white polyester fabric side for you to sublimate on to. As with everything that we print at Dye Sublimation Supplies, the image has been printed onto Jet Stream Digital Sublimation Paper with a Ricoh SG7100DN printer using SubliJet-R Sublimation Gel Ink from Sawgrass. We will also be pressing the Sublimation Pot Holder with our flat press, which is the MAXX press from Stahls.
Firstly, we will be pre-pressing the pot holder to ensure there are no creases in the fabric, any moisture present has been removed and that the pot holder is up to at least room temperature. Make sure you use some form or protective item, like a Teflon sheet or even greaseproof paper, to ensure that your product and your press are protected from stray ink.
When you come to press the pot holder your press should be set to 185°C and the timer to 70 seconds, ensuring that there is firm to heavy pressure. Place your image on the white fabric side of the pot holder, securing it in place with thermal tape. Put the pot holder in the press and once the timer goes off, open the press and take the sublimation pot holder hot, carefully while wearing heat proof gloves as the item may be hot. Remove the transfer paper from the pot mat holder and view your completed product.
